Size: 7"H without stand, 8"H with stand. Sold as a pair; made in China. This is a vintage set of Cloisonné vases decorated with dragon imagery. Each vase comes with a stand. Cloisonné is a form of metal work. It is extremely labor intensive as the designs are created by bending and twisting metal ribbon by hand and then soldering it to the vase body. Color is added by melting layers of glass oxides at such high temperatures that they fuse to the metal body. Between layers the vase must be smoothed and polished. Classic Chinese Cloisonne adds seven layers before the final polishing. This set was originally made in the late 1970s soon after China's Cultural Revolution. They were crafted using the most traditional methods dating back to the Ming Dynasty era.
